What happened here? It
was almost pitch black due to the only source of leight being moonlight seeping
through firing holes in the front wall, but he could make out two guards
sitting by a table and being dead asleep. Or dead. Or not. Their chests moved
steadily as they breathed slowly. But where was Shirral?
He moved a step
forward, trying to see through the darkness. She should be near the opening mechanism,
but he couldn't see that either.
Oh. It was between the
guards, a large wheel with pegs around it to allow for a steadfast grip. So she
should be....
She was curled up in a
ball at their feet. What? He nudged her. Nothing. He shook her. Also nothing.
Was she even alive? Yes. She breathed and appeared to be just sleeping. He let
out a sigh of relief. It was pre-emptive, given the situation, but still. Why
was she asleep in the first place? he shook her again, slightly stronger.
Nothing again. He yawned.
What?
How come? He felt
rested just moments ago, and running for your life certainly doesn't make you
sleepy. Something dark and evil was in play here. He had to get her out and
back onto the horse. And hope that he could ride it. Because that was
uncertain. He cursed. That just reminded him of his leg once again.
