Yet to be named, pt10

She noticed the hood and put it back on. He was too shocked, trying to get over the situation he found himself in. In a human city soon to be overtaken by the undead and swallowed by fire – the blaze was already consuming the buildings around the square – he was almost robbed by a female
of his kind working as a stable... girl!
This rendered him speechless and motionless for a moment. An urgent nudge below the ribs woke him from his slumber.
‘Go!’, the woman hissed into his ear.
He forced the horse to move, and directed it away from the fire, into the still-safe area of the city. The streets were crowded with people fleeing towards the gate. The pair, despite the advantage of having a mount, made very slow progress. The woman shifted uneasily behind him.
‘Did this horse drop you into the mud earlier on?’, she asked.
‘Well, yes, it did. Why are you asking?’’.
‘Because they will give it another chance’, she said, looking up.
Indeed, the robed undead were descending onto the street in force. Dozens were landing
in various parts of it already. That stirred hornets’ nest of fear. The screams of people turned the overwhelming noise into a morbid crescendo.
That appeared to drive the undead on.
